On July 25, the Standing Office of the Binh Thuan Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command issued a letter to the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue on the end of the search and rescue of the fishing vessel BTh 97478 TS that sank on July 10.
After 15 days of the incident, 9 out of 15 people were rescued including: Bui Van Toan (captain of the fishing boat BTh 97478 TS), Nguyen Thanh Luyen, Ha Van Tan, Tran Theo, Tran Thuan Thanh, Nguyen Van My, Bui Van Vinh, Le Van Dung and Nguyen Thanh La.
Earlier, on July 10, the fishing vessel BTh 97478 TS captained by Mr. Bui Van Toan on the way back to the port sank.
After the incident, 15 people divided into 2 bottle baskets (7-person baskets and 8-person baskets) floated at sea.
Receiving the news, many rescuers urgently entered the search for the fishing vessel and 15 fishermen lost contact, and helicopters were also dispatched to participate in the search at sea.
On July 19, the fishing vessel BD 96935TS, owned by Mr. Le Minh Thu (binh Dinh province), discovered a bottle basket, on which there were 4 crew members of the fishing vessel BTh 97478TS. After boarding the ship, they recounted that at first there were 7 people on the basket, but 3 people died during the drift.
On July 22, the Buffalo ship, which was sailing from Egypt to China, discovered and rescued 5 more fishermen of the fishing vessel BTh 97478 TS drifting on the bottle basket. The area found is about 224 nautical miles east of Nha Trang, 344 nautical miles northeast of Vung Tau.
The group of fishermen on the rescued basket said that there were 8 people but 3 people died during the drift.
Through the survivors’ accounts, the remaining 6 fishermen who were on board the fishing vessel BTh 97478 TS died. The body dropped into the sea, unable to locate.
