On January 30, at the press conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, Chen Cao, a researcher at the Institute of Viral Diseases of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced that since the outbreak of the new coronavirus infection, my country has continued to carry out monitoring of the new coronavirus mutant strains to trace the source of the early epidemic. It provided important clues and support, and accumulated a lot of experience and data in the process. Surveillance data shows that BA.5.2 and BF.7 are still the main epidemic strains in this round of the epidemic, and no other dominant virus strains have been detected so far. During the Spring Festival holiday, a total of 1,421 genome sequences of the new coronavirus were reported from various provinces across the country. After analysis, 11 evolutionary branches were found, and BA.5.2 and BF.7 were still the main ones. No new mutant strains were found.
Chen Cao reminded that the current Spring Festival travel season is underway, and colleges and universities will start school one after another in the near future. In the next step, the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will continue to guide the country to do a good job in monitoring the mutation of the new coronavirus, and continue to monitor outpatient (emergency) cases and severe cases in sentinel hospitals. Cases, deaths, and special populations are monitored for the mutation of the new coronavirus; people entering the sea, land, and air ports are monitored for the mutation of the new coronavirus, and timely warnings and corresponding prevention and control measures are taken
