According to statistics, workers aged 15 and over who had jobs in the second quarter were 50.5 million, an increase of 504,000 compared to the previous quarter. There were more than 880,000 underemployed workers, down 447,000.
The General Statistics Office has just announced the labor and employment situation in the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2022. Accordingly, the labor market is continuing to have a good recovery, the proportion of people with jobs increases, unemployment decreases, average monthly income increases.
Specifically, the number of workers aged 15 and over in the second quarter was 51.6 million, an increase of more than 400,000 people compared to the previous quarter and an increase of nearly 600,000 people compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, labor in both rural and urban areas increased (up 300,000 people and 100,000 people, respectively), the female workforce increased by 300,000 people, and men increased by 200,000, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the labor force increased in urban areas by 600,000 and decreased by 60,000 people in rural areas.
The second-quarter labor force participation rate was 68.5%, up 0.4 percentage points from the previous quarter. In particular, females were 62.6%, 12.2 percentage points lower than men (74.8%). The participation rate of the urban sector workforce is 66.1%, compared to 70.1% in rural areas.
By age group, labor force participation rates in urban areas are lower than in rural areas in very young age groups and age groups, where the disparities are most recorded in the 55-year-old group or older (urban: 33.5%; rural: 46.7%) and the 15-24 year old (urban): 36,3%; rural: 44.9%).
Thus, people in rural areas entered the labor market earlier and left the market much later than urban areas; this is a typical characteristic of the labor market with the labor structure participating in the agricultural sector accounting for a high proportion.
The percentage of trained workers with degrees and certificates in the second quarter of 2022 was 26.2%, 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous quarter and the same period last year. Of the 23.7 million people aged 15 and over who did not participate in the labor market (outside the labor force) in the second quarter, there were 12.7 million of working age, the most concentrated in the 15-19 age group (5.9 million people).
Workers aged 15 and over employed in the second quarter were 50.5 million, an increase of 504,000 (up 1.01%) from the previous quarter and an increase of 701.8 thousand people (up 1.41%) compared to the same period last year.
Employed workers in urban areas were 18.7 million (up 127,000 from the previous quarter and up 673,000 from the same period last year), and in rural areas there were 31.9 million (up 376,000 from the previous quarter and up 27,000 from the same period last year).
In the second quarter of 2022, employed workers in agriculture, forestry and fisheries were 13.9 million, an increase of 12.6 thousand people in the previous quarter and an increase of 138.0 thousand people compared to the same period last year; the industrial and construction sector had 16.8 million people in work, an increase of 62.1 thousand people compared to the previous quarter, and an increase of 210.0 thousand people compared to the same period last year; Employed workers in the service sector were 19.8 million, an increase of 429.8 thousand people compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 353.8 thousand people compared to the same period last year.
In the second quarter, there were more than 880,000 underemployed workers, down 447,000 from the previous quarter and down 263.1 thousand people compared to the same period last year. The underemployment rate of workers of the age group was 1.96%, down 1.05 percentage points from the previous quarter and down 0.64 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The underemployment rate of workers in urban areas is lower than in rural areas (1.37% and 2.32%, respectively). As such, the underemployment situation of workers has improved significantly with this rate decreasing in both urban and rural areas (2.39% and 3.40% respectively in the first quarter of 2022).
