While going to transplant out of the field in Van Con commune (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi), two women residing in Quoc Oai district were suddenly struck by lightning, dying on the spot.
On the morning of July 13, talking to The People’s Reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Thoan – Secretary of Van Con commune (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) said that on the morning of the same day, in phuong Quan village of the commune, there was a lightning strike that killed 2 people.
According to Mr. Thoan, at about 7 am this morning (July 13), Ms. Dinh Thi N. (54 years old, in Republic commune, Quoc Oai district) and Ms. Nguyen Thi T. (50 years old, in Dong Quang commune, Quoc Oai district) went to transplant rent to a household in Van Con commune when suddenly struck by lightning.
At the scene, Mrs. N. and Mrs. T. died on the spot. Van Con commune police are coordinating with the functional forces to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
The area where the incident occurred was a flat field, with high-voltage power lines running through. Local authorities said they were completing procedures to hand the victim over to their families to take care of the post-mortem procedures.
The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said satellite cloud images, lightning positioning and weather radar images show convection clouds set up from Ba Vi, Phuc Tho, Thach Thất… causing thunderstorms for this area and then spreading to the inner-city districts on the morning of July 13.
