VietNam – Farm fire leaves 400 pigs on fire

The fire broke out at the pig farm of Amavet Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company in Nam Book district, Hai Duong province, causing 400 pigs to die.

The incident took place on the morning of July 15, at a pig farm belonging to Amavet Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (in Nam Tan commune, Nam Luong district, Hai Duong province).

According to the representative of Nam Tan Commune People’s Committee, this farm consists of 3 pig breeding areas, managed by Mr. Nguyen Van Q. (58 years old). The burnt farm has an area of about 700m2, divided into 2 parts, one side raises sows, the other side raises piglets.

After discovering the incident, the local authorities directed the authorities to coordinate with the farm owner to urgently fight the fire. However, the heat-resistant ceiling system of the farm was completely burned; About 400 pigs (including: 300 piglets and 100 sows) of the farm died.

Mr. Hoang Van Toan, Chairman of Nam Tan Commune People’s Committee, said that when the incident occurred, the commune government mobilized the police force and the commune’s disaster prevention force to support and handle.

“First of all, we make a record and report to the district’s disaster prevention department to carry out procedures to request a support program as prescribed. The police are still investigating the cause of the incident but it is basically suspected to be a short circuit,” Toan said.
