VietNam – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is about to visit and work in the United States and the United Nations

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will join the leaders of ASEAN countries for a special summit to celebrate the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-US relations; visiting and working in the United States and the United Nations from May 11-17.

At the invitation of U.S. President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will join the leaders of ASEAN countries for a special summit to celebrate the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-U.S. relations on May 12-13 in Washington, D.C United States.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead the Vietnamese delegation to visit and work in the United States and the United Nations from May 11-17.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Vietnam-U.S. relations in recent years have continued positive development momentum. The leaders of the two sides maintained contact and telephone talks at all levels, especially we successfully organized the activities of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the sidelines of the UNITED NATIONS General Assembly (September 2021) and the meetings of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with President Joe Biden and Special Envoy John Kerry on the sidelines of COP26 (October 2021).

Vietnam successfully welcomed many U.S. delegations to Vietnam, especially U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris (August 2021). The two sides maintained dialogue mechanisms in the form of online during covid-19.

Currently, the two sides are actively coordinating the arrangement of foreign affairs activities of the leaders of the two countries in the coming time, including the Visit to the United States of the Prime Minister to the US-ASEAN Special Summit; visit and work in the United States (May 11-17) as well as prepare to organize annual dialogue mechanisms.

During the exchanges, the U.S. side reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a “strong, independent and prosperous” Vietnam, continuing to appreciate its position and attach importance to relations with Vietnam, asking the two sides to continue taking steps to strengthen ties, including prioritizing economic and trade cooperation, security – defense, health, energy.

Regarding the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations, which will take place from May 12-13 in Washington, D.C, usa, the State Department said that ASEAN and the United States are currently exchanging and agreeing on the agenda of activities, Meeting.

According to the schedule of activities, the leaders of ASEAN countries and the President of the United States will look back, evaluate the overall progress of the two sides’ partnership in the past 45 years and set out important orientations to develop ASEAN-U.S. relations in the coming time, at the same time, spend time discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Within the framework of this meeting, ASEAN and the United States are expected to have their own and in-depth discussions on issues of cooperation of mutual concern such as economy, trade, investment, maritime cooperation and security, pandemic response and recovery, climate change response, energy, science and technology, sustainable infrastructure development…
